INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2014
“IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD” –
ON THE LINGUISTIC MATTER OF WHICH THE WORLD IS BUILT
with the topic
PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION AND ACADEMIC DISCOURSE
IN THE CURRENT GLOBAL CONTEXT OF MULTILINGUALISM
The Research Centre for Specialised Translation and Intercultural Communication (TSCI) activates within the Department of Foreign Languages and Communication (DLSC) of the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest.
The aim of TSCI is to strengthen the international sustainability of the prestigious Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest and to contribute to the establishment of the highly privileged status of the Department of Foreign languages and Communication as a training ground for specialised translators and interpreters within the academic and professional environment of a technical university.
Thus, transdisciplinarity is the distinctive mark of DLSC. We embraced it as a founding principle in both our academic activity and our research approach within TSCI. Furthermore, our Department has established itself as a bridge between the teaching and research activity of non-literary translation and interpretation on the one hand, and the ever exacting and dynamic professional environments in which experts of these fields evolve, on the other hand.
The main sections and the topic of the Round Table also represent some of the main preoccupations of TSCI, and our conference follows our principal research directions, among which are:
- New trends in the theory, practice and didactics of translation and conference interpretation teaching;
- Applied studies in specialised terminology;
- Applied foreign languages;
- Intercultural communication;
- Risk management in translation;
- Social anthropological approaches of the translator/interpreter profession;
- Methodology of scientific research.
The TSCI 2014 Conference targets university teachers, researchers, BA and MA students of the DLSC, as well as market players, active in the fields of translation and interpretation.
